 Refraction

Please note that "refraction test" refers to the test the dr performs to test what strength eyeglasses lens you need.  Refractions are not covered by Medicare, although most eyetests themselves are since the eye exam is for the medical condition of the eyes, and refraction is for the eyeglasses.

Axis-the number of degrees from 0 to 180 that the cylinder is ground into a lens to correct for astigmatism.

O.D.-O.50 -0.25 x 001

     means Right Eye  -.50 sphere  -.25 cylinder x(at axis)001 (1 degree)

O.S.-0.50 -0.50 x 180

    means Left Eye -.50 sphere  -.50 cylinder x(at axis)180 (180 degrees)

If the axis was 0 then there would be no astigmatic correction and the prescrption  would be in this case,-0.50 sphere O.U.( occular unisom) or both eyes.
